Hackers On Planet Earth 16 (HOPE)
HOPE_16 is a welcoming place for hackers of all types: makers, artists, educators, experimenters, tinkerers, and more! If you're interested in playing with technology, coming up with new ideas, learning from others, and sharing your knowledge, then this is the place for you!
HOPE_16 is an all-ages event with at least four speaker tracks, a whole bunch of workshops, awesome vendors, and fun activities throughout the entire weekend. This will all take place in a unique campus environment accessible by mass transit and offering free parking. On- and off-campus housing options are available, with surprisingly low prices.
The HOPE conferences are known for their creativity and diversity, not to mention a whole lot of hacker fun. We've been at this for over three decades now - the first HOPE conference was in 1994.
HOPE_16 is different, though. For the first time ever, HOPE has become an annual event. Our first three conferences were separated by three years and every conference after that was biennial, or once every two years. After doing this 15 times, we think we're finally ready to become a yearly tradition.
One of the main reasons we're making this change is because of the new environment HOPE is located in: St. John's University in Queens, New York City. We have lots of space, cheap accommodations, and technology that actually works! The conference is near JFK and LaGuardia Airports and is easily reachable by mass transit from any part of the New York metropolitan area. And if you choose to drive, get this: free parking! It has become so easy and hassle-free to attend HOPE that we felt this was the perfect time to expand.
There are so many projects, talks, workshops, presentations, villages, etc. that we can coordinate at HOPE_16 and we hope you will participate in as many ways as possible.
