Photo Walk - San Diego
Join us for an in-person photo walk in San Diego’s Balboa Park! We'll wander through this beautiful urban cultural park and have fun seeing the sights. Bring a camera, your phone or just your eyes, and we’ll talk photography and the open web as we stroll!
Al’s live location will be on while he’s at the park:
Meet at 11 at the Bea Evenson Fountain and we'll roll out at 11:15. Don't stress if you end up later than that because of parking or whatever - we'll be monitoring the #events channel in chat for any stragglers, just hit us up there!
We’ll start at the east side of the park (between the Fleet Science Center and the Natural History Museum), then head west through the plazas, museums, and gardens. There are two large free parking lots nearby, one just north of the fountain and one just south.
The route will be flexible and driven by whatever catches the group’s eye: candid street photos, architecture, landscapes, whatever strikes our fancy. Balboa Park is busy in a pleasing way - Spanish Colonial arcades, fountains, buskers, and families out for the day, all mixing together in a way that feels a bit like Main Street at Disneyland.
There's one small museum in particular that we'll most likely want to dip into - the SD Museum of Photographic Arts - but other than that, the best sights will be outdoors.
Conversation is wide open too: lighting, phone vs camera workflows, candid shooting, composition, or anything else that comes up.
No special gear or experience is required. All cameras (including phones) are welcome, and it’s fine if you want to skip bringing any kind of camera. No pressure! We'll take in the sights, soak up some sunshine, and enjoy good company.
The paths are flat and paved, but wear comfortable shoes since it’s easy to rack up more steps than you expect.
We’ll likely pause near the Prado area partway through for coffee or a snack from the cart. No lunch is planned; we’ll wrap up in time for everyone to grab their own meal and head over to the nearby afternoon hangout at a beer patio.
No RSVP needed, just show up!
